EPLAN as a drawing standard for water pumps
Turning groundwater, into drinking water
Where previously external parties were often called upon, there are more and more organizations that want to have the expertise in-house. This often also means that new working structures must be established. A challenge is often the rigging of a new working method. From Engineero we were approached to work towards the drawing package of EPLAN as a new standard.
This technical issue came from a semi-governmental organization and water company. The main task of this organization is to turn surface water or groundwater into drinking water. Especially in times of drought, it is important to have enough quality water. For each water filter location, pumping systems are matched to the amount of chemicals to be extracted from the water. The drawings for a new pump were previously always outsourced and then sent directly to the contractor. To keep more control, there was a desire to set up our own standard drawing package.
Engineering Expertise
Engineero was called in for this technical issue to transfer a number of existing drawings to EPLAN and to set up a new standard. In EPLAN, a design has first been made with a universal basis and sheets that may or may not be applicable to each project. One drawing is now created from EPLAN, the power of the pump is selected and the package automatically adjusts the plan. Depending on the power of the pump, EPLAN is programmed to adjust the protection and thickness of the cables, for example. Because EPLAN is data oriented, it is now also possible to make connections between certain drawing lines and supplier data can be added to the drawing. This saves a lot of time and provides uniformity in the drawing method. Packages can be changed within a short time, without things being forgotten or, for example, the control not being adjusted to the power of the pump. With the standardization of the drawings, a streamlined drawing process can be guaranteed within the organization.
“It is nice that with this standardization document, new employees know what they are doing, how the water company works and how the client works.” - Peter Boere
Technical issue
A pump sometimes has more than ten different versions in terms of capacity. These pump drawings are used to purchase the correct installation parts. Earlier, a separate drawing was requested for each variant of the pump system and put ready in the drawing management system. After the drawing packages were brought in-house, there was a need for a new standard set-up. The current drawings were drawn line by line; a time-consuming and error-prone job in case of any changes to the package.
