Optimal management of water filter systems

Of all the water in the world, less than 1% is available to us as drinking water. Being able to filter potable water plays an important role in providing the world with sufficient drinking water. Various organizations therefore focused on efficient water use in order to prevent a shortage. In the meantime, filtering water has also taken off in recent years. Within the food industry or pharmaceutical industry, a water filter and pump system that is tailored to the legal water quality requirements is a welcome outcome. From Engineero we contributed to updating the documentation of the technical requirements of the water filter systems and installations.

This technical issue came from a water treatment company and one of the largest players in the water industry. Clean water is polluted in various production processes worldwide. In order to be able to treat contaminated water so that it becomes drinking water again, they are developing systems that factories and organizations can use to filter and filter the water. It is important that the installations for customers meet the standards and requirements from government agencies. In order to guarantee this, there was a desire to update the documentation and technical requirements of the water filter installations.

“If the specifications of the installations and pump systems are not correct, a customer cannot meet the legal quality standards of water. Not only do they break the law, it also endangers our scarce drinking water.” - Riekus van der Westhuizen

Technical issue

Our global drinking water is scarce and irreplaceable. Filtering and de-polluting water plays an important role in keeping our water drinkable. With water filter installations it is possible for customers to treat contaminated water in such a way that it again meets the legal drinking water quality requirements. Because the quality standards differ per sector, the systems are adjusted to the customer's process, the type of contamination and the sector. Demand for water treatment systems from various sectors has grown at a rapid pace in recent years and the number of installed water filter and pump systems has increased significantly. From an organizational point of view, it was not possible to manage the projects properly and to maintain an overview of the systems. In order to be able to properly manage all customer systems, there was a need for more people who could take responsibility for the quality requirements.

Engineering expertise

Engineero was hired for this technical issue to participate in the current activities, to manage the systems within projects and to map out any bottlenecks within projects. The first step to maintain an overview of all current projects was the development of various project management tools. Subsequently, the projects and systems were put together and possible inefficiencies were examined. Think of projects in which the lead times, price, costs or quality are negatively influenced. With these insights, improvement actions have been taken to ensure that customers' systems meet the quality standards. With accurate documentation of the technical specifications and the right project management tools, customers now have proof that they meet the legal water quality requirements.

“What makes a project like this exciting is the construction of, for example, a new oil & gas factory. Every sector has new water quality requirements that you have to take into account. The great thing about it is that everything you learn contributes to your own knowledge and skills.” - Riekus van der Westhuizen
