Changes within the automotive industry

Many changes are taking place in the automotive industry. Fossil fuels are increasingly being exchanged for renewable energy sources such as hydrogen. To move along with these changes as a car brand, alternative propulsion methods are needed. From Engineero, we are working on detailed manufacturing drawings and multiple fluid lines for engines in the prototype phase. This allows for engine testing and iterations before the final design is established.

This technical issue came from an established organization in the automotive industry. To meet customer demand worldwide and the shift to alternative forms of propulsion, the need arose to produce new fluid lines for the next generation of engines.

"To stay ahead, you have to respond to technological developments in the industry. However, if you switch to hydrogen, you cannot use your normal fluid piping and the like. The choice of materials depends on the fluids (hydrogen, fuel, oil, coolant) an engine needs." - Divan Barnard

Technical issue

The automotive industry has strict requirements for the materials and parts used in cars. This is because faulty fluid lines can lead to leaks and engine damage, resulting in reputational damage or high product recall costs. In addition, each car brand has its own standards around the connection of lines to the engine. How do you produce a customized solution for each customer? Where material selection and compliance with strict standards are crucial? Supporting customers in the development of next-generation engines and turbochargers requires detailed design of fluid piping for hydrogen, fuel, oil, engine coolant and air.

Engineering expertise

For this issue, Engineero was hooked up to bring expertise in manufacturing methods, CAD software and fluid dynamics. To create detailed design and manufacturing drawings, we collaborated with engineers. In addition, we supported in finding solutions for new customers and projects. The background knowledge related to fluids, manufacturing and production engineering was essential to develop multiple fluid lines for motors in prototype phase. Being involved in customers' design process as early as this stage allows for proper testing of new engines and propulsion methods. Developing prototype cooling lines and other components helps advance technology and commitment to the automotive sector.

"By collaborating with engineers and using my manufacturing and process engineering skills, I was able to create a streamlined workflow. This allowed me to ensure that information was not lost between different facilities and teams." - Divan Barnard
