Marco Mentink

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Marco Mentink. About 18 years ago I worked with EPLAN for the first time. Since then I was active as a draftsman/engineer for about 12 years. Because of this I know the many ins and outs of the package. In the other (especially recent) years I was involved in various roles such as lead engineer, control-system engineer, project manager and department manager, mostly in the use of EPLAN as an engineering package.

Which course do you follow for your personal development?

Like me, EPLAN has undergone considerable development over the years. My own experience is that these developments at EPLAN go much further than just the continuous renewal and improvement of the software. What I have come to appreciate more and more are the philosophy and the work processes that are applied within EPLAN. Most importantly, data for all aspects of a component is kept all in one place.

Within a project you get a kind of modular structure that closely resembles the object-oriented way of working in the automation world. This with standards such as ISA-88 etc.

As a result, information can be easily filtered from one source, instead of being spread over several “Lists”. This modular setup of an electrical design, with all the documentation that goes with it, provides a huge efficiency improvement.

In order to do this properly in EPLAN, it is important that it is set up correctly. In order to specialize in this, I will start my training as an EPLAN Certified Engineer for Engineero. Me and Engineero hope to be able to support our colleagues and our customers even better in their engineering and in optimizing their work processes.
