Electrically powered autonomous mowing robot

One great project Engineero is involved in is the project for Vector Machines. This is a startup that is developing a fully autonomous mowing robot. This robot is an autonomous mower capable of accurately identifying and avoiding people, animals, plants and other obstacles. And the robot can also be used in areas where GPS reception is less, such as solar parks.

Technical challenge

In the field of autonomous systems, you now have either robots that drive entirely on GPS in an area where good reception is assured, or robots that drive in based only on other sensors and only know about the local space around them. Engineero is working with Vector Machines on an innovation to combine both of these types into a single robot that can thus be GPS-driven, but can still operate in places where GPS reception is poor or lost.

By using sensor fusion to combine the GPS data with data from other sensors, you can monitor where the robot is and thus properly determine how it can continue to drive autonomously. The software is designed so that you can plan mowing operations in the field efficiently, according to programme.

Engineering expertise

The specific expertise Engineero brought to this project was reading the various sensors and controlling the robot's motors to create a stable base that the navigation software could use to navigate reliably. We also provided support in the area of electronics development in the robot and the further development of a prototype robot into a production-worthy model.

Partly because of our knowledge input, Vector Machines can make the step from prototype to product. There is now a good basis in the control of the motors and sensors on the robot so that it can navigate autonomously in a reliable way. And this basis has been developed so that it can also be applied to different models of robots, including for applications other than just mowing robots.
