Column oven: high-precision temperature control
The column oven plays an important role in separating substances. By ensuring a constant and accurate temperature during the analysis process, the oven directly contributes to reliable and repeatable measurement results. Within this project, the firmware was refined and expanded with new functionalities, focused on accurate temperature control and improved stability.
Autosampler: automated sample feeding
The autosampler ensures efficient and automated delivery of samples to the measurement system. This is particularly important when analyzing multiple samples in a single session. The firmware developed enables these processes to run smoothly, accurately, and error-free, significantly increasing the productivity of the entire system.
Role and responsibilities
Within the firmware team, responsibility focused on both development and optimization. The work included:
- Fixing bugs and increasing system reliability
- Drawing up and executing test procedures to validate the firmware
- Maintaining technical documentation within Polarion
- Version control and collaboration via Git and Azure DevOps
- Active participation in team meetings and code reviews
- Writing embedded C code for new features and improvements
Approach and working method
The project approach began with a thorough analysis of the existing firmware architecture. Thanks to the modular and layered design of the system, it was possible to work efficiently on extensions and improvements without compromising the stability of the existing functionality.
New functionalities were delivered via pull requests, with code reviews ensuring knowledge sharing and quality assurance. Daily stand-ups provided structure and space for discussing progress, technical challenges, and quickly addressing questions or obstacles.
By working closely together within the team while taking responsibility for individual components, reliable and maintainable firmware was realized in a short period of time for two high-tech instruments with a direct impact on medical and laboratory analyses.
